CUT hold off valiant UWC

FNB CUT showed their class when they beat FNB UWC 49-40 in a high-scoring affair in Bellville on Monday.
CUT took the lead when Meyer Van Tonder went over for their first try in the tenth minute of the game and was converted by flyhalf Noel Marx meant that CUT lead 8-0.
UWC would have been disappointed after flyhalf Charl Van Vollenhoven missed two early penalties.
UWC then lost their inspirational scrumhalf Freddie Muller to a yellow-card in the 15th minute but this didn't stop UWC from scoring their first try through wing Donovan Williams. Van Vollenhoven kicked the conversion and brought the scores back to 8-8 after 19 minutes.
CUT knocked over a penalty in the 22nd minute that took them back into the lead and they did not look back at all and ran in another four tries before the break to lead 36-16 after the first 40 minutes.
The second-half was not as action packed although there was a red card handed out to CUT loose-forward Frans Sisita after he was adjudged to have made a dangerous tackle. This was after he received a yellow card in the first-half.
The side from Bloemfontein made heavy-weather of their resounding half-time lead as UWC made a brave comeback in the second half as they managed to only run in two tries to the three tries from the hosts.
With the extra player it seemed that UWC were going to make a historic comeback but it was not to be and CUT managed to hold on with only 13 players on the field.
The Ixias have opened a six point lead at the top of the table after they held out against the side from Bellville on Monday night.
