Steinhoff Heimat overwhlemed Steinhoff Humanities 55-16 in their Steinhoff Koshuis game in Bloemfontein on Monday.
The University of Free State residence found their try scoring touch as they scored an eight-tries-to-two victory over the side from Wits.
The hosts opened their account after 11 minutes, when big lock Chris du Randt barged over to score a try, which remained uncoverted.
Openside flank James Prinsloo added a second try just on 20 minutes. It was converted by Darren Baron this time and Heimat enjoyed a 13-0 lead at the first half strategy break.
The scoring continued as fullback Francois Crous run in another try after 22 mins. The conversion was missed but all the momentum was with the men from Bloemfontein. 18-0.
The visitors were to get themselves onto the scoresheet soon afterwards however.
With Heimat on attack once more, Humanities scrumhalf Etienne Wessels shot up to make an intercept and ran oll the way to dot down.
Gabriel Manyke added the extra three points and the Wits side had a foothold in the game at 8-18.
Humanities didn’t enjoy much of a comeback however, and soon the home side were back into the groove in fine style and they secured their bonus point before the break, as lock Ramon Lillie grabed a brace within three minutes to end the half with Humanities leading 34-8.
After the interval the Heimat onslaught continued as tighthead prop BJ Koortzen barged his way over just minutes after the re-start.
Baron added the conversion and the home side led 42-8.
Loosehead prop Jandre Jacobs was the next Heimat playter to add his name to the list of try scorers as he barged over. Baron’s boot was accurate and the home side had their half century.
Humanities were not giving up though, and outside centre Alistair Ballantyne scored their second try to reduce the deficit.
The men from Heimat would have the final say, however, and Nakkie Naude added the eight try of the day to cpmplete the thrashing.
