The Steinhoff Tigers ended their first Steinhoff Koshuisrugby Championship with a bang as they notched a 42-13 victory over the Steinhoff Stallions in Bloemfontein.
The comfortable victory leaves the CUT outfit with two wins from their first campaign, while NMMU’s Stallions suffered four straight defeat to end bottom of the standings.
The hosts struck first when flank Fanie van der Merwe scrambled over for the opening try to put them 8-0 up at the first strategy break.
They followed that up with two unconverted tries, and they soon had the bonus point wrapped up, with skipper and fullback Stefan Schutte going over for their fifth try to give them a commanding 34-0 lead at half-time.
The visitors started the seconf half with two tries of their own to reduce the deficit to 34-13 at the second strategy break.
However, the Tigers struck back through outside centre Clinton Toua who converted his own try to take their lead out to 42-13 and seal the comfortable win.
