The semi-finals will only be decided on Monday the 27 March 2017 in the FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International, due to the FNB Shimlas who failed to win their last game with a bonus point.

The FNB Shimlas couldn’t secure a bonus point in their game against the FNB Madibaz and therefore they may not qualify for the semi-finals. FNB Shimlas coach Hendro Scholtz said, “It is disappointing that we could not qualify for the semi-finals against the FNB Madibaz”.

FNB Shimlas managed three tries against the FNB Madibaz in their winning score of 23-7 and must now rely on the Varsity Cup game between the FNB Tuks and FNB Pukke in Potchefstroom on 27th of March. Should FNB Pukke win the game with a bonus point on Monday, FNB Shimlas and the FNB Pukke will be even on the log with twenty three points after the final round in the Varsity Cup.

This will end the Varsity Cup season for the FNB Shimlas as the FNB Pukke have a better points difference. The FNB Shimlas have a bye in the last round of the Varsity Cup therefore cannot add to their log points.

“We had the opportunity to score two more tries in the first half, but we didn’t use our opportunities. We could have made it easier for ourselves and we need now to wait for the last round of the Varsity Cup to see if we will be playing in the semi-finals,“ said a disappointed coach Hendro Scholtz.

It will be a nerve-wracking weekend and Monday night for the FNB Shimlas as they wait to find out whether they will play in the semi-finals of the Varsity Cup, FNB Shimlas fans hold your thumbs for your team to play in the Varsity Cup semi-finals.
