The University of Walter Sisulu have been docked 10 points, with both of their opening two matches adjusted to 32-0 losses, after they were found to have fielded ineligible players in their opening two Varsity Shield matches.
On Monday 6 March the FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International’s Disciplinary Committee held a hearing for FNB WSU. The university pled guilty to the charges that they had fielded first-year players above the age of 22 in their opening two matches, against competition rules.
They have been deducted all 10 points obtained in their opening two matches against FNB UFH and FNB UKZN, and the scores have been adjusted to reflect 32-0 victories to the opposition. Thus FNB UKZN and FNB UFH have both been awarded the full five points in offer in their matches against FNB WSU, with 32-0 victories.
The 32-0 score reflects four converted tries according to Varsity Shield rules, which equates to a bonus-point victory.
