The Steinhoff Cobras have now won all of their matches so far this season after beating Steinhoff Harlequins 13-0 on Monday night. This, coupled with the fact that the team from UCT went undefeated for the duration of the 2016 Steinhoff Koshuis internal league, means that they haven’t been on the wrong end of a score line for quite some time.
Speaking to captain Ty Wills earlier in the year, it seemed that an obstacle the team would face would be the fact that members of the squad were still in other parts of the country (because of how much later the University of Cape Town started its 2017 academic year) while other teams had already come together and started their preparations for the competition. However, with their current run of form, it seems as if that has not been an issue at all, with the team gelling incredibly well both on and off the pitch.
“We had an unbelievable time in P.E. It was a tough game and we struggled a bit early on, but our forwards are unbelievable and that really set the platform for us to start playing our running rugby despite the wind,” said captain Ty Wills when speaking on their previous match.
Off the field, the team has enjoyed the competition just as much as they have whilst playing. They have always been full of praise for Steinhoff, the opportunity to tour and even the management of opposition teams.
“We’re really excited to have a home final, and we love the way the competition has been set up this year. Regardless of what division we are in, it would be good to win some silverware for UCT this year as it’s been a tough season,” said Wills.
“We know that they [Steinhoff Harlequins] will come hard at us, but we’re looking forward to it. Hopefully we can get a win for UCT and have some beers with the NMMU guys afterwards to celebrate the competition,” said Wills when discussing their upcoming final against Steinhoff Harlequins.
Steinhoff Cobras and Steinhoff Harlequins are set to clash on Monday, the 27th of March at 17:00 at the Green Mile in Cape Town.
