Steinhoff Mopanie finished the regular season on top of the UP-Tuks Steinhoff Koshuis League log and have now shifted to a knockout rugby mentality ahead of their semi-final clash with Steinhoff Onderstepoort on Tuesday, 16 August.
Looking back on the regular season, Steinhoff Mopanie head coach Barend Kirsten, admits that the season was tough and that his charges have to step up ahead of the playoffs.
“We’ve been working hard but still need to work on a few more things as we are not completely happy with our game especially the scrums. We are looking forward to the playoffs,” said Kirsten.
Steinhoff Mopanie will be confident ahead of their semifinal clash with Steinhoff Onderstepoort as they beat the veterinary students in the final round of the regular season but captain Hein Schoeman is wary of their semi-final opponents.
“The score from the first match against OP did not portray how close the match really was. It was only in the last ten minutes of the game that we pulled away,” he told varsitysportssa.com.
“OP will look to make things right in the second match so we need to get in the match as soon as possible if we have any hope of beating Onderstepoort,” he added.
TuksRugby have indicated that if there is a draw after regular time teams will play two extra time halves of seven minutes. If the scores are still tied after extra time, then a golden try extra time will be played where the team who scores the first try wins the match.
