The 2017 Steinhoff Koshuis Rugby season got underway at the University of Cape Town as eight of the eleven teams competing this year got the chance to stretch their legs before the university closed for their mid-semester vacation.
In the first match of the day, Steinhoff Nadoes scored six tries as they claimed a 32-0 victory over Steinhoff Leo Marquard. Early shots are definitely being fired, as Steinhoff Nadoes will be looking to reclaim a spot in next year’s FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International.
Steinhoff Smuts were unable to pick up where they left off last season, as they found themselves on the wrong end of an 18-12 score line in their match against Steinhoff CVU Vikings.
Steinhoff Knights managed to get off to a running start as they overcame Steinhoff Saints 24-15, continuing the latter’s losing streak. In the final match of the day, Steinhoff Ubombo put four passed Steinhoff Kopano as they convincingly won their match 26-7.
Steinhoff Cobras, Steinhoff Ikhaya and Steinhoff Turtles all didn’t play a match on the day.

Steinhoff Cobras begin their title defence
As the second round of fixtures kick off, Steinhof Leo Marquard will be looking to bounce back from a heavy defeat at the hands of Steinhoff Nadoes last time out. They face off against Steinhoff Knights in the first match of the day. Steinhoff CVU Vikings will be hoping to secure their second win of the campaign against a struggling Steinhoff Saints side, but their opponents won’t go down easily as they know they need to start getting the right results.
Steinhoff Cobras’ first game of the new season sees them facing off against Steinhoff Ubombo. The defending champions have gone undefeated since the beginning of last season, and with the form they showed in the FNB Varsity Cup, knocking them off their perch will be quite a challenge.
Steinhoff Turtles will look to begin their push for the title with a victory over Steinhoff Kopano. The team had an impressive run and even made it to the semi-finals last season, where they lost out to Steinhoff Nadoes. In the last match of the day, Steinhoff Smuts and Steinhoff Ikhaya clash as both teams search for form in the hopes of climbing the table this season.
Because there are eleven teams in the competition this year, Steinhoff Nadoes have a bye this week.
