Steinhoff Patria retained their title as the Pukke Steinhoff Koshuis Rugby champions when they beat Steinhoff Over de Voor on Monday night.
It was a tense game, but in the end Steinhoff Patria did enough to walk away with a 32-20 victory.
However, it was not easy for the defending champions. Steinhoff Overs were spirited and were only 15-10 behind by halftime.
After halftime Steinhoff Overs fought back, with scrumhalf Christo van der Nest securing swift ball for his backline. It was, however, two tries by the forwards that kept Steinhoff Overs in the game.
When lock, Hendrik du Plessis, scored ten minutes from the end, the deal was sealed and Steinhoff Patria walked away with the win.
Absorbing the pressure secured Steinhoff Patria the win over Steinhoff Overs. Captain Berto Kleynhans played a captain’s role, keeping his troops cool, calm and collected.
Steinhoff Patria will return to the 2017 Steinhoff Koshuis Rugby Championships.
