Steinhoff Saints pick up their first victory

FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International News, Ikeys Koshuis Rugby, Steinhoff KoshuisRugby No Comments on Steinhoff Saints pick up their first victory 43

In the standout result of the day, Steinhoff Saints picked up their first victory in over a season as they triumphed over Steinhoff Kopano 39-7. This gave the team their first points of the season, taking them from the bottom of the log and leaving them within touching distance of the top half of the table.

Steinhoff CVU Vikings got the opportunity to take a crack at Steinhoff Nadoes, but they failed to come out on top after a very tightly contested match ended 19-17 in favour of Steinhoff Nadoes. Steinhoff CVU Vikings remain on top of the log despite the loss, leading Steinhoff Cobras based only on their respective points differences. However, the teams below the league leaders do have a game in hand.

In the first match of the day, Steinhoff Cobras continued their dominant run in the league as they toppled Steinhoff Smuts 33-15, meaning that they now have the opportunity to take the lead after they play their game in hand. Steinhoff Turtles put on a show as they scored six tries and beat Steinhoff Ubombo 38-0.

Although only four match days have elapsed and the teams remain close to each other on the log, a few teams seem to be asserting themselves more than others on the field. What remains to be seen is whether or not they can knock Steinhoff Cobras off their perch.

Team 1 Team 2 Result
Steinhoff Cobras Steinhoff Smuts 33 – 15
Steinhoff Ubombo Steinhoff Turtles 0 – 38
Steinhoff Kopano Steinhoff Saints  7 – 39
Steinhoff Nadoes Steinhoff CVU Vikings 19 – 17

Bottom teams set to battle it out

In a similar situation to that which saw Steinhoff Saints pick up their first win of the season, bottom sides Steinhoff Kopano take on Steinhoff Leo Marquard in the first fixture of the day. Both teams have lost all their matches so far this season, and have the two worst points differences in the league thus far.

Steinhoff Cobras will be vying for top spot as they take on an energized Steinhoff Saints side. Despite coming off the back of a win, Steinhoff Saints face a mammoth task in stopping the reigning champions.

Steinhoff Knights have the opportunity to draw level with Steinhoff CVU Vikings as the two teams face off in what could be an important match in the title race. A loss for Steinhoff CVU Vikings would see them slipping down the table in the coming weeks as their competitors play their extra games in hand.

In the final match of the day, both Steinhoff Ubombo and Steinhoff Smuts will be looking to recover from losses in the previous game week. The two teams are level on points, with Steinhoff Smuts just ahead on points difference. Both Steinhoff Nadoes and Steinhoff Turtles have a bye this week.
