The group stage for the UJ Steinhoff Koshuis Rugby League is done and dusted. The final round saw plenty of tries and drama, with Steinhoff Cornerstone the biggest upset heading into the knockout stages.

Steinhoff Cornerstone were sitting comfortably in third place when they kicked off their match against Steinhoff Maqhawe. Their dreams were broken when they ultimately lost 0 -33, and missed out on a semi-final spot.

The team that beat them to the knockout stages was Steinhoff Oppierif, who won impressively in a 36 – 0 victory over Steinhoff Chiropractors as they finished third on the UJ Steinhoff Koshuis League table.

The fourth and final team to make the semi-finals was Steinhoff Jabali as they saw off Steinhoff Kilomenjaro as the latter ended the league with zero wins out of ten and were whipping boys of the 2017 Steinhoff Koshuis Rugby League.

Team 1 Team 2 Result
Steinhoff Cornerstone Steinhoff Maqhawe 0 – 33
Steinhoff Kilomenjaro Steinhoff Jabali 0 – 30
Steinhoff Chiroptactors Steinhoff Oppierif 36 – 0

Mouth-watering semi-final clashes

The first semi-final will see 2016 champions Steinhoff Chiropractors take on evergreen Steinhoff Oppierif. Following their three-match suspension at the beginning of the season, Steinhoff Oppierif have defied the odds by qualifying for the semi-finals.

They take on a team they beat in the final fixture of the group stage and a team who will be looking to defend their championship. Between them, the two have won various championships and the winner will see themselves challenge for the title.

The final semi-final will see log leaders Steinhoff Maqhawe who led for most of  the season take on fourth placed Steinhoff Jabali, who secured their spot in the final round. Steinhoff Jabali will certainly come into this match as the underdogs. However, when it comes to knockout rugby, form and favourites are thrown out the window.

More than anything perhaps it will be Steinhoff Maqhawe who might feel the pressure of having to produce the results, especially after coming first in the UJ Steinhoff Koshuis Rugby League.
