FNB UP-Tuks Young Guns steamrolled to a 137-2 victory over FNB Wits Young Guns in FNB Varsity Young Guns competition in Johannesburg on Monday.
Outside centre Marquit September scored a hattrick as the men from Pretoria ran in nineteen tries to hammer their hosts.
UP-Tuks flew to an early 24-0 lead, racking up three tries in the opening ten minutes, and the scoring did not let up as the game progressed.
An early try by September, was closely followed by tries to left wing Keanan van Wyk and inside centre Attie Louw – all of which were converted by flyhalf Kobus Marais.
The home side then got their name on the scoreboard, with flyhalf Kyle Wasseman knocking over a penalty for two points.
Soon the UP-Tuks barrage continued as captain Pierre Schoeman over to secured the bonus point try before the first half strategy break.
September then grabbed his second third try of the day, which were converted by Marais to extend the lead to 48-2.
Scrumhalf Kobus Wolmarans then added a try of his own, before Schoeman got his brace and another try as fullback Wyatt Murphy took over the kicking duties.
Just before the halftime interval, lock Jean Droste crashed his way over to extend the lead to 74-2 at the halftime break.
The scoring continued at a great pace after the break, as blindside flank Corne Cooper grabbed himself a brace, and Louw scored his second five pointer of the day.
Replacements Mattys Basson and Jinxie Molapo then came off the bench to join in the fun and get tries of his own, before right wing Dimitrio Tieties and replacement back Philip Orffer scored and van Wyk scored his second.
No.8 Carel Swart scored the final try of the day just before fulltime, to complete the thrashing.
