Full house for the Young Guns

We have a complete fixture list for the FNB Young Guns Competition with some massive fixtures on the cards for Monday.

The first game to concentrate on will be the fixture in Pretoria where FNB UP-Tuks take on the newbies FNB Wits in what could turn out to be a fairly one-sided affair. The UP-Tuks side is laden with talent and it seems that the Wits side will not be able to contain them for very long. UP-Tuks did start the tournament quite slowly and ground out a 18-16 victory over the FNB UFS-Shimlas Young Guns in their opening fixture whereas the Wits side went down valiantly 60-8 against the FNB NWU-Pukke Young Guns. It is going to be a massive ask for the Wits side as the UP-Tuks juggernaut looks to gather some vital momentum.

The next game sees the FNB NMMU Young Guns hosting the FNB UJ Young Guns in Port Elizabeth. The NMMU side went down 34-24 to FNB Maties Young Guns last week in a game that was a lot tighter than the score suggests. The game was touch and go right up until the last couple of minutes and that result will encourage the Madibaz. There is nothing on this UJ side as they are making their first appearance in the competition for this year so it will be interesting to see whether they are going to hit the ground running or they are going to battle against a side that has 80 minutes under their belts.

The third fixture of the day sees the FNB UFS-Shimlas Young Guns hosting the FNB NWU-Pukke Young Guns in Bloemfontein. The UFS-Shimlas side could not pull off what would have been a famous victory when they went down 18-16 against the defending champions UP-Tuks in the first round of the tournament but they will take a lot of heart from this result into their game against the side from Potchefstroom. NWU-Pukke on the otherhand recorded a resounding 60-8 demolishion of Wits last week. It will be interesting to see whether UFS-Shimlas will find the week off a burden or a blessing.

The last fixture is arguably our biggest, the Cape derby between FNB UCT Young Guns and FNB Maties Young Guns in Cape Town. The home side managed a convincing win in their first fixture when they disposed of NMMU 44-15 in the first week of the competition. This is in comparision to the 34-24 win that Maties managed over the same opposition last week. If we look into these results one might tip the odds into the home sides favour but Maties are an incredibly competitive side and having played last week they might have the edge in terms of match fitness but in a derby it is anyones game.
